Thailand launches a 5 year digital nomad visa
Work remotely and live well, where rent is 70% lower than the US

Thailand has announced it has launched a digital nomad visa.
Those who apply may be able to stay up to five years which is one of the longest digital nomad visas available.
More countries are seeking to benefit from digital nomad tourism, such as Italy and Japan, which announced digital nomad visas in recent months. These types of travellers are attractive as they stay in countries long-term and contribute to the local economy through their consumption of rental accommodation, food and entertainment.
If you’re a digital nomad and you can go East, Thailand is a fascinating country to spend time in. From the mountains of Chiang Mai to the beaches of Koh Samui, Thailand has all the bases covered.

As well as stunning nature, it has all the modern amenities needed as a traveller working remotely, but at a fraction of the cost compared to some other places.
In fact, the cost of living in the United States is 106% more than in Thailand and with rent prices alone over 260% higher than in Thailand.
In most Thai places, you can eat out after work for less than $3 and buy a coffee for less than $2.
In other words, if you earn a healthy salary in USD, you can live very well in Thailand, with money to spare.
Thailand was voted higher in terms of ‘happiness’ via the World Happiness Report than some European countries including Croatia and Greece. And it is in the top 10 of best countries to live as an expat, so there are plenty of opportunities to socialise and find friends.
What is a digital nomad?
A digital nomad is someone who can work from any destination that they choose. They are typically self-employed or are tech workers who work for companies which allow remote working. Or they may be small, location-independent online business owners.
Since the pandemic and the rapid increase of remote working, more people than ever are seeking out this lifestyle, attracted to the freedom and benefits it offers.
Applying for the digital nomad visa
To apply, you must work for a company based outside of Thailand. Spouses and dependants may accompany the applicant. There is a processing fee of 10,000 Thai Bhat, approximately US $270.
Other conditions including minimum salary requirements, will be announced in due course and will be listed on the Thai Government website.
