How to get a remote job with no experience
f you’re searching ‘how to get a remote job with no experience’ you know it can be tricky. But If there’s a will, there’s a way and luckily, there’s a way
‘Remote jobs’ is an increasingly popular search term as more people seek remote and flexible working.
Let’s face it, the daily commute can be a chore and more people crave the independence of working remotely from the comfort of their own home or overseas.
But whilst there are plenty of remote jobs available, competition is fierce and these roles can be difficult to secure – especially if you’re just starting out or have few relevant skills. For instance, if you’re a graduate, unemployed or if you don’t have experience in the technology industry, where most of these positions are advertised.
However, by thinking outside of the box, there are some ways to live your dream of landing one of those coveted remote jobs, even with no experience in 2024.

How to get a remote job with no experience
1. Start your own business
So you want a remote job but you have no experience. Well, one way to work on your terms is to be your own boss, right? Ok, this might be an ambitious point to start on. But as we all spend more time online, it’s never been so easy to start a digital business.
This doesn’t have to be the next Amazon, (although that would be great!) it just needs to be a business venture that at a minimum, sustains your monthly expenses.
For instance, consider if you have a talent such as art or sewing and make an online Etsy store to sell your wares. Look into dropshipping or start a t-shirt printing business. Launch a podcast and leverage sponsorships. Begin an import/export business with local products from your hometown. The possibilities are endless. 2. Tutor or teach English (TEFL)
Do you have specialist knowledge or a degree in a subject that you could privately tutor online? STEM subjects are the most in-demand, but you could market private tutoring services in any subject or topic and charge a monthly fee. If you’re bilingual, offer a tutoring or translation service in that language via platforms such as Upwork and Fiverr.
If English is your native language, consider training as an English teacher. The Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) qualification allows people to train as specialised English language teachers in as little as six weeks. It’s an inexpensive course and once qualified, you will receive a certificate that will allow you to apply for relevant teaching jobs.
There will always be a need for English teachers and with this qualification, you will be able to apply for both online and in-person teaching jobs. There is a particular demand for teachers in countries such as South Korea, China and Japan and there are a ton of online resources that can guide you through the recruitment process.
However, please be aware of scams. There are a lot of poor-quality TEFL service providers and sham language schools. Be careful and do your due diligence before parting with your money and personal information.
3. Retrain
So if you want to land a remote job but you have no experience or skills, you could think about gaining skills and retraining in a subject that interests you.

No matter how old you are, it’s never too late to learn something new. You could be surprised how quickly you could upskill yourself in 3-12 months by undertaking a training course or new qualification. Thereby, gaining valuable new skills which will enable you to get a remote job.
For instance, look into courses for in-demand jobs in the tech industry such as software development, data science or AI management. By gaining a credible qualification, you will be able to apply for work experience positions and junior roles. Once you land your first position, the only way is up. And you may be lucky and be able to secure a remote job from the get-go. Especially in certain companies that only work remotely.
Whilst it will take time and effort to start afresh in a new career path, this could majorly pay off in the future and enable you to live your dreams and work on your own terms. Good luck!
