5 signs you need a life coach

Procrastination stands between you and your dreams! So get a grip and get ahead. Here are 5 signs you need a life coach.

We all have dreams. Whether that’s to start a business or get a juicy new promotion. To finish writing that book or to reach our gym goals.

But it can be tough to get down to it. To block out distractions. To stop daydreaming about how great it will be when you get there and put in the work to make it happen.

So why can’t we discipline ourselves to get what we want? And could a life coach help?

A life coach helps us understand what it is that we want and how to get it, by supporting us in making better use of our time and holding us accountable for doing the work. You’d be surprised at just how powerful and motivating it is to talk about your goals out loud with someone and to make an action plan with them.

So, here are some red flags that may resonate with you. And if you’re ticking a few, a life coach could be just what you’re looking for.

1. You check your phone constantly

The digital, connected world we live in doesn’t always help us get things done. Let’s face it, most of us are never without our phones and we look at them all day

Of course, smartphones have their benefits and help us enormously in running a business and in general, daily living. But short-form video content and general advertising bombardment has helped to make attention spans shorter, making it harder to focus and concentrate on what we need to do. In fact, Gen Z’s have been found to have an attention span of just eight seconds

Most of us reach for our phones first thing each morning and mindlessly scroll on social media, and check emails or other apps before even getting out of bed! This massively slows us down and harms our productivity and motivation for the rest of the day.

In fact, scary new stats show that people are spending up to 4.8 hours a day on mobile apps, according to data.ai, which adds up to a staggering 73 days a year! So it’s no wonder we’re taking so long to get through our to do lists. We can never reclaim that lost time and imagine how much further we would be in reaching our goals if we had invested those days into working towards them.

2. You’ve had the same goals for years

Whatever it is, if it’s been a goal for years or even decades and it hasn’t happened you may be stuck in a rut. If it’s a realistic goal that just needs some elbow grease on your end, why aren’t you getting there? Are you truthfully putting in the time and attention it deserves?

Nothing worth having comes easily. And if your new year’s resolutions are always the same, for example, the classic ‘this year I’ll get in shape’ and you just don’t do it, it may be time to make a change.

3. You don’t know where to start

So you know what you want, but how do you get there? It can be confusing and daunting, but if you have that great idea you may just need to talk through your thoughts to get a game plan together.

Working with a coach can help you organise yourself and put together a strategy to get to where you want to go, step-by-step. They may also be experienced professionals in your field and have practical advice to point you in the right direction and to the right resources.

4. You lack confidence

This one is huge! We compare ourselves to others and doubt ourselves all the time. We see successful people in the office or on social media and feel intimidated or ‘less than’. We worry about what others think and how they will judge us if we do go for what we want. So it becomes easier to procrastinate and put things off.

Working with a coach may help to soothe those fears and put us back in control of our thoughts.

5. You need to be held accountable

Just like at school, where you had deadlines to deliver your homework, sometimes we need someone to hold us accountable to hit our goals. This is incredibly powerful and once you get into the habit of doing things on time it will be much easier to stay productive in the future.

Honestly speaking, most people simply don’t realise (or are in denial) about how unproductive they are. But successful people are in control of their time and don’t waste a second of it.

So, if you recognise these five signs and if you want to make a change, (start by putting down your phone!) then consider getting a life coach to get you back on track.
